• Patrick Flavin to visit Oregon, Illinois

In my high school travels this past week, I stopped in at Benet Academy in Lisle, Ill., to see three-star offensive line prospect Patrick Flavin. The Red Hawks made the playoffs this year and the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Flavin was a big reason for Benet's success this season. Flavin's brother, Bill, is a member of the Notre Dame football team but he won't be following in his footsteps."I have about 25 scholarship offers right now," Flavin said. "I took an official visit to Cal and really liked what I saw. The coaches are great and obviously there are great academics at Berkley. I plan on taking an official visit to Oregon in November and Illinois in December."I don't have any other trips in mind right now. Distance won't be a factor in my decision. My family told me that I have to make the decision and they would be fine with what I choose to do. I try not to look at the record of the team. Oregon can be the top team in the country this year and can struggle next year. You never know. I just need to look at all factors and make a decision."LaCosse in limboOn Thursday, while watching quarterback Matt LaCosse (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) practice, I was able to talk to his coach, Sean Drendel, about whether or not his top prospect is still verbally committed to Minnesota. The Gophers fired Tim Brewster last month and the prospects that gave him their verbal commitments are left in limbo. "We are going to wait and see what happens," Drendel said. "I wouldn't be surprised if Matt ended up at Illinois. I don't think Illinois would recruit Matt to play quarterback but he's extremely athletic and could end up at wide receiver or tight end."Harris hoping for moreJosh Harris (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) is going to be a part of the television show The Ride which airs starting this Saturday on MTV2. Harris who already has an offer from Dartmouth just received a scholarship offer that would keep him close to home. "Grand Valley State just offered me a scholarship," said the 6-1, 195-pounder. "Grand Valley is close to home but I'm hoping that after the television show that more schools come to the table with an offer."
