David Perkins (South Bend, Ind./Washington) was a regular on the combine circuit last spring and he is having a terrific junior season. On the offensive side of the ball, Perkins has 780 yards rushing on 85 carries. He also has 10 catches for 180 yards. Defensively, Perkins is leading the state with 21 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. "I have scholarship offers right now from Toledo and Ohio University," said the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder. "I've been getting hand-written mail from Notre Dame, Iowa, Ball State, Northwestern, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Louisville, Nebraska and bunch of MAC schools. I've been talking to the coaches at Syracuse on a regular basis. My coach told me that UCLA is going to be in school this week to check out my film."
Church is one to watchDevin Church (Southfield, Mich./Brother Rice) is going to be a prospect to watch in 2012. The 5-9, 175-pound running back is having a fine junior season. "We finished the season at 6-4," said Church. "I had a pretty good year but I'm looking forward to being one of our team leaders next season. I'm going to take a few weeks off and then it's time to hit the weights. I don't have any scholarship offers yet but I'm hearing on a consistent basis from Northwestern, Central Michigan, Toledo and Missouri. I'm keeping all my options open. I went to some camps and combines last year and I'm going to do the same thing this spring and summer."
Aurand still waitingAnother Michigan prospect to keep an eye on is
Andrew Aurand (Troy, Mich./Athens). The 6-3, 270-pound offensive guard was an all-league performer this season. "I don't have a scholarship offer yet but I'm getting mail from several schools," Aurand said. "I made an unofficial visit to the University of Toledo and I will be making unofficial visits to Central Michigan, Northwestern, Western Michigan, and Penn State University soon. I'm hitting the weights right now and working on my strength and speed. The camps and combines will be a huge part of the process for me. I want to make a strong impression."
Backup making noiseCathedral High School in Indianapolis, Ind., is a school that has FBS level prospects on a yearly basis. A prospect to watch next season for the Fighting Irish will be quarterback
Corey Babb. The 6-5, 205-pounder isn't starting this year but he's getting reps as well as the respect of coach Rick Streiff. "Corey is the prototypical drop-back quarterback," said Streiff. "He can make all the throws and he'll get his shot next season." Babb is starting to see his recruitment pick up. "I've been invited to participate in the Army All-American combine in San Antonio," Babb said. "Miami (Ohio) and Ball State have been sending hand-written mail. I'm also hearing from Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, Penn State, Notre Dame and Cincinnati. Right now I'm working on a highlight tape to send out to coaches."
