Jack Allen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) became the third center from Illinois to give an FBS school a verbal commitment. Last spring,
Brian Bobek (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) committed to Ohio State,
Tony Durkin (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) committed to Illinois in July and now Allen has decided to cast his lot with Michigan State. "I went on a gut feeling," said the 6-foot-2, 265-pounder. "I have a very good relationship with coach [Dan] Roushar and coach [Mark] Dantonio. I had a chance to meet a lot of the guys currently on the team at Michigan State in the summer and they were all great guys. I knew Michigan State was the place for me."
Chappelle still waitingA.J. Chappelle (Florrisant, Mo./Hazelwood Central), a 5-9, 190-pound athlete says he's still looking for his first scholarship offer. "We opened up with a big win over DeSmet 20-19," Chappelle said. "Things were sloppy on both sides but we were happy to come out on the winning end. On the recruiting front, I'm getting a lot of mail and phone calls. I might go on an unofficial visit this weekend, but I haven't made definite plans. Indiana, Michigan State, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Kansas State are the schools I'm looking at the most."
