Chase Elliot Hounshell (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) isn't your ordinary football prospect. In an era where top prospects commit quicker and sooner than ever before, Hounshell was content to play out his senior season, take his official visits and then make his college decision. Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa and Boston College were just a few major FBS programs looking to sign Hounshell in February. However, a recent trip to Gainesville, Florida changed everything."I took an unofficial visit to Florida a little over a week ago," said the 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end. "I loved everything about Florida and I loved my visit there but they didn't offer me a scholarship. The Florida coaches called me and offered Wednesday night. They asked if I wanted to become a Gator right now and I said 'heck yeah I do'. Florida was the perfect combination -- city, people, coaches, facilities, location, academics, tradition, and The Swamp, it made it a done deal for me. Also my brother plays at Central Florida in Orlando, which is only a couple hours away so me and my brother Chad can still hangout on the weekends. My family can make both of our games and that was important in coming to a decision. My family agreed with me 100 percent and I couldn't be more happy."
Voltz still at three offersDan Voltz (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) is one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2012 class. The Broncos began practice on Wednesday and we caught up with Voltz to get an update on his recruitment. "Recruiting is going well. I am still at three offers with Northwestern, Illinois and Wisconsin. I recently took unofficial visits to Northwestern, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Tennessee and they were all amazing. I'm ready for the season to start. We are expecting big things this year from our team and we have a great offensive line."
