Cornerback
Valdez Showers (Madison Heights, Mich./Madison) is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the Midwest, but a recent camp showing even surprised him."I went down to the University of Florida and was offered a scholarship." Showers said. "It made me take a step back and now I realize that I could play at the BCS level in any conference." In addition to the Gators, Showers has been offered by Iowa, Illinois, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Central Michigan. "I'm not in a hurry right to narrow anything down," said the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder. "I'm keeping my options open, I'm going to take my time and put everything in God's hands."
Mogus commits to NorthwesternOffensive lineman
Geoff Mogus (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) saw his stock soar this summer and it seemed that a scholarship was offered after every camp that he attended. The 6-5, 280-pounder ended his recruitment last night by giving Northwestern University his verbal commitment. "I wanted to commit before the season and concentrate on my senior season at St. Ed's," Mogus said. "It was a gut feeling that I had that told me Northwestern was the right place for me. Coach [Pat] Fitzgerald played at Northwestern and he's one of the best young coaches in the game. The academics at Northwestern are outstanding and I feel the degree will help me later in life." Mogus chose Northwestern over Illinois and West Virginia.
Taylor up to five offersDefensive tackle
Bernard Taylor (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) says he hasn't camped at any schools this summer, but he has been making some unofficial campus visits. "My offers are Indiana, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Ball State and Illinois State," said the 6-2, 280-pounder. "I'm going to Indiana later this month for a visit. I'd like to make a decision before the start of the season but only if I feel comfortable that I'm 100 percent sure. I already visited Ball State and I really enjoyed my time there."
