A prospect to watch in the state of Illinois is 2012 prospect Dan Voltz (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). The 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive tackle camped at three Big Ten schools this summer and all three offered a scholarship before he left."Illinois and Wisconsin were the first schools to offer me a scholarship." Voltz said. "I just camped with Northwestern this past Friday and they offered me as well. I'm going to try to keep things open, I still have a couple of years of high school football left but I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do."Voltz will become the most sought after offensive lineman since Dan Doering was named an Army All-American five years ago. The Broncos could have the best offensive line in school history this season."We talk about it all the time in the weight room," said Voltz. "In 2005, we had Dan Doering (Iowa) and Otis Hudson (Minnesota/Eastern Illinois). This year it's Jimmy Kristof, Pat Bolger and I. All of us have [FBS] scholarship offers."Voltz says he was moved to the varsity team as a sophomore and started every game in 2009 but that's something he's used to. "I've been playing football since the second grade," he said. "When I was in the third grade, I started playing heavyweight because I was too big to play with kids my own age. I was playing with kids five years older than me."Voltz told us that his father graduated from Northern Illinois, his mother from Southern Illinois and he has a brother that attends the University of Illinois. The odds are good that he'll be playing his college football in the Land of Lincoln."It's been my dream to play for Northwestern," said Voltz. "Barrington isn't too far from Evanston and we've been going to Northwestern football games since I was little. I've visited the school and the campus a bunch. It's just a comfort thing. When coach [Pat] Fitzgerald offered me a scholarship, I was on cloud nine."Northwestern offers a great education. They play in the Big Ten and coach Fitzgerald is one of the best coaches in the game. Having said that, I want to make sure to take a look at the opportunities that come my way before making any kind of commitment. "I'd like to stay close to home. It's going to be important that my parents be able to come watch me play. The other schools that I would be interested in checking out are Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame."Voltz also letters in track and field. He carries a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and is considering majoring in sports management in college.
