• MLB Player X: Our crazy superstitions

Baseball players are creatures of habit. I know I've said it before in this space, but it's in our DNA. We wear a uniform. We are identified by the same number every game. The same song plays every time we approach the plate. My typical in-season day goes like this: Wake up around noon (cut me some slack; I work out after games and then I'm wired. So I don't fall asleep until early in the morning); eat breakfast; check some e-mails; head to the park to study video; eat again; hit in the cage; eat; handle media responsibilities; stretch; batting practice; eat; play the actual game; then work out and head home or go to the airport. Oh, I also eat again in there somewhere. That's pretty standard. I am a creature of habit, of ritual. And so is every other ballplayer I know.
