Washington State flag shows up in Australia at Sydney Cup

Washington State didn't make it to Sydney, but Ol' Crimson did. Jessica Shobar/ESPN

Ol' Crimson is in midseason form.

OK, it's not actually the Ol' Crimson -- or even a crimson flag at all -- but a white Washington State flag made an appearance at the first college football game of the season on Friday.

Not that it should be much of a surprise.

At this point, there really isn't much of an offseason for WSU flag wavers. Though their bread-and-butter is showing up at ESPN College GameDay, it's not unusual to see Cougars flags waving at random events all over the country -- and now, with the appearance at the Hawaii-Cal game in Sydney, the world.

College GameDay kicks off its season from Lambeau Field on Sept. 3., which doubles as the official start of Ol' Crimson's season.
