NBA: Despite Carmelo Anthony's 42 points, the New York Knicks fell to the Boston Celtics 96-93 Tuesday night after Kevin Garnett made the go-ahead basket with 13 seconds remaining. With the win, the Celtics grabbed a 2-0 lead in their opening-round playoff series. The Knicks were missing a couple key contributors. Chauncey Billups was suffering from a sore knee and missed the entire game, while Amare Stoudemire sat out the whole second half due to back spasms.

Dallas took a 2-0 playoff series lead for the first time since 2006 after beating Portland 101-89. The Mavericks' final 11 points came from Dirk Nowitzki, who finished the night with 33.

The Magic didn't let Dwight Howard's dominant efforts go to waste a second time. Behind his 33 points and 19 rebounds, the Orlando Magic beat the Atlanta Hawks 88-82 to tie the series at one apiece. Howard became the first player to rack up at least 33 points and 19 rebounds in the first two games of a playoff series since Shaquille O'Neal did so in 2001, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Lamar Odom is this year's recipient of the Sixth Man of the Year Award, making him the league's top reserve. He becomes the first Laker in NBA history to win the award, which requires that a player come off the bench in more games than he starts. Odom entered as a reserve in 47 games and was a starter in 35.

NHL: The San Jose Sharks pulled off a tremendous 6-5 comeback win over the Los Angeles Kings in overtime Tuesday night after falling into a 4-0 hole in the second period. The teams scored a combined seven goals in that period. San Jose now leads the first-round series 2-1. ... Chicago dodged elimination Tuesday night, crushing the Vancouver Canucks 7-2 to pick up its first win of the postseason. Dave Bolland had one goal and three assists in his return to the Blackhawks' lineup after missing 17 games for a concussion. The Canucks still hold a 3-1 lead in the series, which shifts back to their home ice for Game 5.

MLB: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera uncharacteristically blew a two-run lead in the ninth, allowing Toronto to tie the game and force extra innings. The Blue Jays eventually went on to win 6-5 in the 10th. It was Rivera's first blown save of the season. Alex Rodriguez was out of the lineup for a second straight game due to a sore oblique muscle. ... Tuesday's St. Louis Cardinals-Washington Nationals game had to be postponed after a severe storm came through St. Louis, setting off tornado sirens and dumping hail. A day-night double header is scheduled for Wednesday.

Men's college basketball: Kentucky star freshman Doron Lamb announced that he won't be heading to the NBA. Instead, he'll return to Kentucky for his sophomore season. Lamb shot 48 percent from 3-point range this year and led the Wildcats to their first Final Four appearance in 13 years.
