NBA: The Lakers had both a big win and a big loss Tuesday night. They beat the Western Conference-leading San Antonio Spurs 102-93 to snap a five-game losing skid but lost center Andrew Bynum to a hyperextended right knee. Bynum stepped on DeJuan Blair's foot in the second quarter, and his knee buckled. He will undergo an MRI Wednesday but will not travel with the team to the Lakers' season finale against Sacramento. ... With the San Antonio loss, Chicago tied the Spurs for the best record in the NBA (both teams are 61-20) after trouncing the New York Knicks 103-90. The Bulls went on a 26-2 run to open the second half and now the battle for the league's best record. Home-court advantage throughout the playoffs will be determined with Wednesday's results on the last day of the regular season. ... The Portland Trail Blazers clinched the sixth seed in the West with a 102-89 rout of the Memphis Grizzlies. However, Portland will have to wait until the regular season ends Wednesday night to find out which team it will be facing in the first round of the playoffs.
MLB: The MLB-best Texas Rangers suffered a greater loss than their 5-4 defeat to the Detroit Tigers Tuesday. Josh Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP, broke his upper right arm sliding headfirst into home plate. The outfielder will be placed on the disabled list and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. ... The Boston Red Sox went from bad to worse, falling to 2-9 overall after a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The matchup was the first since April 30, 1918 that pitted two teams who were 2-8 or worse against each other. Boston now owns the worst record in the majors. ... Dan Haren threw his first-ever one hitter and helped the Los Angeles Angels shut out the Indians 2-0, ending Cleveland's eight-game win streak. The only hit Haren allowed was a single by Shin-Soo Choo in the fourth.
Men's college basketball: UConn standout Kemba Walker announced Tuesday that he would forego his senior season and enter the NBA draft. Walker netted a school-record 965 points this season, or about 45 percent of the Huskies' offense. The junior All-American guard said that he has been in talks with agents but hasn't settled on one yet.
NHL: Although Tuesday provided a break in game action before the playoffs get underway, there was still a bit of hockey news. For the second consecutive year, the Edmonton Oilers will select first in the NHL draft. The New Jersey Devils won Tuesday's draft lottery, but teams cannot be shifted up more than four spots. The Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers will get the second and third picks respectively, while the Devils and the New York Islanders will get the fourth and fifth selections. ... The Dallas Stars fired their head coach Marc Crawford following a season in which he led the Stars to the highest point total of any team in NHL history to not make the playoffs. Crawford leaves after just two seasons. The Stars finished the year in ninth place in the West, one spot out of playoff contention.
NFL: Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was arrested and is facing charges of eluding an officer, obstructing government function, and lying to an officer hindering apprehension, according to FOXSports.com. All charges stem from a police chase Tuesday in his hometown of Bayonne, N.J., according to reports.
