Five things I learned this weekend: Hasty decision for Thornton?
Shadrach Thornton committed to the University of Kentucky on Thursday. But as of yesterday, he was second guessing his decision after officially visiting NC State over the weekend."I really like Kentucky," Thornton said. "The atmosphere there is outstanding. But I feel like I made the decision in haste. The distance is great and I want to be able to see my mom and she will want to be able to see me. I would still say that I am a soft verbal."The NC State visit was terrific. It was exciting and a nice stay. The people are good and the fans are great."Thornton, 6-1 and 200 pounds, also said he wants to officially visit Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. In five games this season the three-star running back prospect has 938 yards rushing on 117 carries and has scored eight touchdowns.Gamecocks land big defensive end
South Carolina landed commitment No. 21 on Saturday from three-star defensive end Jhaustin Thomas (Lithonia, Ga./Columbia). Ironically, his top two schools were the Gamecocks and Auburn Tigers and it was those two teams that faced each other this weekend in Columbia."It came down to those two schools," Columbia coach Mario Allen said. "But he decided to commit at the game. He was there for an unofficial. I think he felt the most comfortable with coach (Lorenzo) Ward and what they wanted to do with him at South Carolina. I also think he felt like more of a priority with South Carolina than Auburn."Thomas, 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, is an intriguing prospect with some very good athleticism."Auburn was recruiting him to play basketball as well," Allen said. "South Carolina could be a possibility for basketball as well. I wouldn't rule that out. It's funny, because if he ever fully committed to football there's no telling how good and how big he could become. I think he would easily get to 270 to 275 pounds. His upside is ridiculous."Thomas is also excited to play with last year's top rated prospect, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney."We had a real big conversation about that very subject," Allen said. "Yea, he's excited, very excited to play with him."Jenkins still favors Tide, Gators
ESPNU 150 defensive end Jordan Jenkins was in the stands in Gainesville on Saturday night to watch his two leaders square off in the Swamp when Florida hosted Alabama. The Crimson Tide won in convincing fashion and Jenkins was impressed with the Crimson Tide, especially their defense."It was pretty nice watching my top two teams play," Jenkins said via text message. "It looked like Florida was going to give Alabama a run for their money at the start of the game but Bama's defense played better against the run than Florida did. Alabama capitalized on that which helped them win the game."It's still Alabama and Florida."Jenkins, 6-3 and 235 pounds, is down to five teams. He will make his first official visit this coming weekend to Tennessee (10-7). Then he has official visits set with Auburn (Oct. 14), Alabama (Nov. 4), Georgia (Nov. 11) and Florida (Nov. 25). He hopes to make his announcement at the Under Armour All-America Game.Destrehan receiver injured
