Five things to watch this weekend: Unofficial could go a long way for Brown
ESPNU 150 athlete Beniquez Brown (Montgomery, Ala./Carver) has three teams on his mind -- Alabama, Mississippi State and Florida. The four-star prospect will take in the Crimson Tide game this weekend when they host Arkansas in an SEC West showdown and the game could go a long way towards Brown's decision."We play Muscle Shoals on Friday and I am heading to the game on Saturday for an unofficial visit," he said. "I just want to soak in the atmosphere and see how I feel."It's unlikely that Brown makes his decision this weekend but what he sees and feels in Tuscaloosa could make an impact. He has already been to games at Ole Miss (vs. BYU) and Auburn (vs. Mississippi State) and would like to visit Florida, if he can."Everything is so tentative right now," Brown said. "I am trying to take my time but would like to have a decision in the next few weeks. I would love to visit Florida before I make my commitment. I may officially visit them when they play Alabama (Oct. 1)."Brown, 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, is having a good start to his senior season rushing for 430 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he has 23 tackles and two interceptions for his 2-2 Carver team.Anxious to see junior LB
I am in Atlanta visiting some high schools and I am looking forward to checking out LaGrange (Ga.) Troup junior linebacker Reuben Foster, who has already committed to Alabama.I have seen his film, sophomore highlights and can't wait to see him play live on Thursday against Columbus (Ga.). Some college coaches like his upside as much, or more so, than Grayson (Ga.) junior defensive end Robert Nkemdiche. I am not sure about that, as Nkemdiche is one of the best defensive line prospects I have ever seen in 20 years of covering recruiting. But I do know Foster is a violent linebacker who explodes to the football. Big game in Oxford
Sometime on Saturday afternoon either Ole Miss or Georgia will walk off the field in Oxford 0-2 in the SEC. Not only will a loss put that team in a deep bind in its SEC divisional race, it also puts added pressure on the head coach. Things are already heating up in a major way for both Houston Nutt of the Rebels and Mark Richt for the Bulldogs. That doesn't bode well for recruiting, as the noise surrounding both programs regarding their head coach is loud and clear and both must play well and win this season or else. For Richt and Georgia, this is a must win. The Dawgs have to win the games they are supposed to win and then they must beat their rivals. Their margin for error is much smaller than that of Ole Miss. The Rebels are breaking in a brand new quarterback and their best player, Brandon Bolden, has been slowed by an ankle injury. Still, the Rebels lost in a big way to Vandy last week.We are entering the fourth week of the college football season. This is a time when recruiting does really take a backseat to the games and the practice and preparations leading up to them, even in the SEC. But make no mistake, recruiting will become that much tougher for the loser in this one this weekend.A tough test for Kimbrow
