Four-star OLB
Denzel Devall (Bastrop, La./Bastrop) has 40 scholarship offers and counting. "Oh yea, he has 40 and they are from Stanford, all the schools in the SEC and everyone in between," Bastrop coach Thomas Bachman said. "It's coast to coast."Devall, 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, is the complete package; a great player with upside and a tremendous student in the classroom."This is a great kid," Bachman said. "I can't say that enough. When coaches come here, that's what they first talk about; they talk about the kid, not about the player. He's always smiling and has a lot of charm. He's very intelligent and carries a 3.8 GPA. He scored really high on the ACT. Denzel is 'yes sir', 'no sir' all the time."On the field he's a heck of a player. I think he's a linebacker but he can put his hand on the ground. He has tremendous get off. If you are watching film and pause the tape at the snap, Denzel has already taken a step and everyone else is still in their stance. The other thing about him is that you only have to tell him something once. He just gets it."Denzel just needs to stay in the weight room and continue to prepare for the next level. He just needs to build up his body and perfect his craft."With so many school options for the next level what does Bachman think he will do?"I think he stays in the SEC more than likely," Bachman said. "But he has a strong interest in Texas A&M. Right now I know he's open to the whole process and he will pick a place that best fits him and his family."This summer Devall camped at Texas A&M, TCU and Alabama. Bastrop opens up on the road at Greenville (Miss.) High School Friday.
