• Jordan Watkins between Georgia, Stanford

Jordan Watkins (Atlanta/Woodward Academy) is getting closer. What was once a long list of potential colleges is now down to a pair of schools in Georgia and Stanford."Right now I am really just trying to get applications for those schools," Watkins said. "I have not set up any official visits or anything. I know I really liked a few schools that had some issues with the NCAA. There were some others that I just lost a little interest in. Then there were two schools I liked in Notre Dame and Oklahoma but I just never got out to see them. I just know I like these two and I can't go wrong academically or athletically."So how will the 6-foot-5 and 268-pound Watkins figure things out?"That's a great question," Watkins said. "It may come down to a gut feel. I need to figure out what school I will be the most happy for four years. They have great academics and football so you are not sacrificing one for the other. But I know I will be watching them all very closely this season. I would like to catch games as well."Watkins has no intention of making a decision before the end of his football season this fall. In fact, that would be the earliest when he would be ready. Instead he just wants to concentrate on the season ahead, where he will start at defensive tackle and play a little offensive tackle as well."Our first game is this Friday (Upson-Lee) and we have a new head coach (John Hunt)," Watkins said. "I am getting used to using my hands again. I had a broken left hand and now it's fully healed and feels comfortable. I am getting in good shape, where I was last year in week seven or eight."He's healthy and ready and Watkins is a man on mission this season. He doesn't care about sacks or forced fumbles. Watkins just wants a ring."For me it's simple, I just want to win a state championship," Watkins said. "If we do get that championship than I know I will put up some good numbers along the way."
