South Carolina landed its second linebacker commitment of the 2012 recruiting class with Friday's addition of middle linebacker prospect Kaiwan Lewis (Hammonton, N.J./ Saint Josephs). Lewis, 6-foot-2 and 227 pounds, is a four-star recruit and the nation's No. 8 inside linebacker."I picked South Carolina because they were the best fit for me," Lewis said. "After sitting down and talking with my parents and coaches I felt very comfortable in making this decision. I have a great relationship with the coaches and fit in with the players at South Carolina. I know it's a place where I can go in and compete for a spot because they have a lot of older guys."Something else that registered for Lewis was the Gamecocks' breakthrough season in 2010 where South Carolina won the SEC East for the very first time."That was a big thing for me," Lewis said. "I Know that is hard to do in the SEC and that was a milestone for them. I know they are headed in the right direction and I want to help them get to that next milestone."Last season as a junior playing outside linebacker, Lewis helped lead his high school team to a second consecutive state title. Along the way he recorded 80 tackles and nine sacks."I bring leadership to the team, both my example and vocally," Lewis said. "I am hungry and I am going to South Carolina to compete for immediate playing time. We have won a couple of state championships so I know how to win and I am bringing that to South Carolina as well."Lewis committed to South Carolina over Florida and Florida State. He's South Carolina's 18th commitment.
