Syracuse strikes again in the state of Florida, this time landing Gainesville (Fla.) High School OLB Tashon Whitehurst on Wednesday afternoon.Whitehurst committed to Syracuse over NC State, Iowa State, Marshall and others."I picked Syracuse because of the good relationship I built with their coaching staff. Since they first offered me we have really gotten to know each other. I did my research and in the end I felt comfortable committing to them," Whitehurst said. "I am going to Syracuse to make something happen. Coach [Doug] Marrone and that staff have done some really good things since they have been there. He has a really good coaching staff."Whitehurst, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, has family in New York and New Jersey, which played a factor in his decision as well."My dad is actually from Syracuse and my mom is from Newark and we still have a lot of family there," Whitehurst said. "That was a big factor for me as well. They are all very excited about my decision to go to Syracuse."Last season as a junior Whitehurst recorded 124 tackles and eight sacks playing inside linebacker."I just go out there and make plays," Whitehurst said. "I play sideline to sideline and I bring a great work ethic every day. I just want to win games and will do everything I can to help my team and win games. I am a competitor."Whitehurst will visit the Syracuse campus for the first time next month. The Orange now have 15 commitments including three from the Sunshine State."It feels real good to get the decision out of the way," Whitehurst said. "I feel a lot better today."
