Virginia Tech picked up its 15th commitment this morning when linebacker
Jawand Blue (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) revealed his intent to join the Hokies. Blue, 6-foot and 195 pounds, is a three-star recruit expected to play weakside linebacker in Blacksburg."They have just a great program with great coaches," Blue said. "Frank Beamer and Bud Foster have both been there forever and they get the job done. Beamer is a coaching legend. Coach [Charley]Wiles made me fall in love with that school. He just told me and showed me how badly they wanted me to be a part of their program."Blue committed to the Hokies without ever taking a trip up to Blacksburg. That will change very soon."I am going up there for the first time this weekend," Blue said. "And I am very excited about that trip. I can't wait to get up there and see the school."Blue also is excited to be reunited with some players he knows from South Florida, including a former teammate."That was a big plus for me," Blue said. "They have some players from down here and that will make the transition easier for me. I look forward to playing with my old teammate
Rob Lockhart again."Last season as a junior Blue recorded 99 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, four sacks, four forced fumbles, and had three recovered fumbles."I bring a lot of energy," Blue said. "I make big plays and have big hits. I am explosive and get to the football. I am just a high energy guy that gets the defense and the crowd fired up."Blue said he committed to Virginia Tech over Florida (no offer), West Virginia and Wisconsin.
