Syracuse is a team that likes to recruit the Sunshine State and over the holiday weekend it picked up its second commitment from Florida. This one is from safety Julian Wigham (West Palm Beach/Dwyer)."I have always been a fan of the Orange," Wigham said. "I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and I have always loved all the New York teams, especially Syracuse. They have a great staff and I love Coach [Scott] Shafer and Coach [Doug] Marrone. They are great to be around. I was up there for camp and it felt like being a part of a family. Committing to Syracuse just felt right to me."Wigham, 6-foot-1 and 172 pounds, plays safety in high school but could play cornerback at Syracuse."I have very good coverage skills," Wigham said. "They like me as a safety but I think they are going to try me first at cornerback and see if I can play that position. They think I can. Syracuse likes to play that press attack defense and lots of aggressive man-to-man. That's what I am good at."Wigham also held scholarship offers from Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.Syracuse now has 14 verbal commitments for the 2012 class. Last month, three-star outside linebacker James Washington (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) committed to the Orange.UK lands another OL
The University of Kentucky landed its third offensive line commitment since Thursday. The latest is offensive guard prospect Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater)."They are getting a good football player," Whitewater head coach Amos McCreary said. "He's a big kid with a great work ethic. Jordan has great feet and is a heck of a pass blocker. Right now he's 6-4 and 304 pounds and I think he can go to 330. Jordan is a well-rounded athlete. He played basketball as freshman and he could have kept playing. Jordan could have started at first base for the baseball team this past season."Watson had a busy summer, visiting a bunch of different schools. In the end, he felt Kentucky was the best place for him."He fell in love with coaches at Kentucky and was just more comfortable with the Wildcats," McCreary said. "He had a busy summer. I bet he visited seven or eight schools. When he got up there to Lexington he thought that was a great fit for him personally. And his mom liked it, too, and you know that's big."The Wildcats now have 14 commitments. Offensive linemen Darone Bailey (Clarksdale, Miss./Coahoma) and Zach Myers (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) committed to Kentucky last week.
