Michigan State landed one of the top two-way recruits from the Peach State over the weekend with the commitment of running back/cornerback
Nick Tompkins (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood)."Michigan State is obviously getting a really talented player," Brookdwood head coach Mark Crews said. "He started in the secondary as a sophomore and last season shared time in the backfield. He had 220 carries for close to 1,900 yards, and scored 19 touchdowns. He's a talented athlete and a great kid. He's a high-character kid and a good student. Nick is all those things you look for."Last season he and sophomore Jamal Cole were the one-two running game punch for the Broncos. Crews hopes to work that magic once again this fall."At this point we play eight or nine spread teams so we like to pound it with those guys," Crews said. "We would like to do the same thing this season if they stay healthy. It's a great luxury for us."In the end, Michigan State won out for Tompkins."He played baseball this spring and I know he visited a lot of places," Crews said. "He had close to 30 offers and they came kind of quick. He was overwhelmed. I know Wisconsin recently offered and his dad played there. So he just visited the Badgers and I thought they were going to get him. But he texted me yesterday saying he committed to Michigan State."The Spartans now have 10 commitments for their 2012 recruiting class.
