Maryland is now up to seven commitments for their Class of 2012 after landing three-star outside linebacker Brock Dean (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt)."I committed to Maryland for three reasons," Dean said. "First is their academics. Maryland's business school is ranked ninth in my field. That's obviously very important to me. Second, their linebacker situation is ideal. They have three upperclassmen and I feel if I come in and work hard I can make a sudden impact. Third, I became very close to the coaching staff. Greg Gattuso recruited me when he was at Pitt and I have become close with their outside linebacker coach [Lyndon Johnson]."Coach [Randy] Edsall is an awesome guy, a standup person. He's the type of coach that I want to play for."Dean, 6-1 and 215 pounds, is a versatile 'backer according to his coach at Bishop McDevitt, Jeff Weachter."Brock runs very well, "Weachter said. "He's physical at the point of attack, he can play in space and come off edge. Brock can cover a slot receiver man to man. There's so much he brings to a defense."While he brings a lot of athleticism to the game there's something else Dean believes is even more important as a football player."My strength is my understanding the game and being smart player," Dean said the No. 64 outside linebacker. "That's what's most important. I watch a lot of game film. I pride myself on my speed and can run sideline to sideline. I can play in space. I can just close in on the ball."Dean visited Maryland three times and also saw Pitt, Rutgers, Temple, and Penn State.
