Giants put FB Nikita Whitlock, TE Matt LaCosse on injury waivers

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – New York Giants starting fullback Nikita Whitlock and tight end Matt LaCosse were put on injury waivers on Monday. If they go unclaimed, they will revert to the injured reserve list and be sidelined for the season.

The Giants also waived wide receiver Myles White and long snapper Tyler Ott.

Whitlock injured his foot on Saturday night against the New York Jets. He was carted into the locker room with what is believed to be a possible Lisfranc injury, according to a source.

Whitlock has been undergoing tests the past two days to determine the extent of the damage. He played in 14 games (with five starts) last season for the Giants, and was an integral part of the team's vastly improved special teams units.

LaCosse was expected to play a part in the tight end rotation after a strong spring and start to the summer. But he injured the knee while making a catch on a pass from starting quarterback Eli Manning several weeks back and it became progressively worse. He tried to play through the problem but was noticeably limping to the huddle last week in Buffalo.

The undrafted rookie out of Illinois caught three passes in two games for the Giants last year. He is scheduled to have surgery on his right knee this week, according to sources.

White played in 12 games for the Giants last season. He had seven receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.

But his inconsistent hands became a problem this summer, and White fell behind Tavarres King and undrafted rookies Roger Lewis and Darius Powe in the wide receiver competition.White had previous experience with Giants coach Ben McAdoo in Green Bay.

Ott was signed late last year when veteran long snapper Zak DeOssie was out with an injured wrist. Ott appeared in the season finale for the Giants against the Philadelphia Eagles. With DeOssie healthy, he became expendable.
