Several starters added to Giants' injury report following third preseason game

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants open their season against the Dallas Cowboys in 13 days, and at least five potential starters are dealing with injuries, although most of them are not believed to be serious or long-term issues.

A look at who is dealing with what heading into the final week of the preseason:

LB Jonathan Casillas (ribs): He is sore, but there are no fractures or breaks despite an initial belief to the contrary. Casillas says there is muscle and cartilage damage, and he is in pain. He’s not expected to be sidelined long. “I’ll be ready for Dallas,” Casillas said. “I will not miss Dallas.”

G John Jerry (ankle): He limped off the field for a few plays Saturday night but returned. Jerry missed practice on Monday.

DB Leon Hall (concussion): He was not out at practice Monday but isn’t expected to be sidelined long.

S Darian Thompson (shoulder): He was working on a side field with a trainer on Monday. The rookie remains on track for the opener.

LB B.J. Goodson (concussion): He left Saturday’s game and was diagnosed with a concussion. He did some light work with a trainer on Monday as he navigates the concussion protocol.

LB Jasper Brinkley (N/A): Coach Ben McAdoo would only say he got “nicked up” the other night, and the Giants held him out Monday. He did some running on a side field with trainers, and whatever the issue is does not appear serious.

LB Keenan Robinson (N/A): He ran on a side field with trainers along with Brinkley. He dealt with a groin injury earlier this summer.

TE Matt LaCosse (knee): LaCosse is dealing with a knee injury that needs surgery this week. His season is in jeopardy, and he was waived/injured on Monday. He'll revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed.

FB Will Johnson (stinger): He appears to be getting closer to a return. He worked on a side field Monday with a trainer.

FB Nikita Whitlock (foot): Whitlock was carted into the locker room on Saturday night. His season may be over with a mid-foot injury and was waived/injured on Monday. He'll revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed.
