Former Texas verbal Major Tennison is now on board with Alabama. Read below to see what Tennison adds to the Tide's impressive crop of young tight ends.
What he brings: Tennison is a tight end with excellent size and good strength with room still to improve in both areas with time in Alabama’s strength program. A big target with good hands and the ability to adjust to the ball. Possesses enough speed and size to work the seam and is a good route runner at this stage. Can be a productive receiving target, but with size and good toughness can also contribute well as a blocker. Needs to continue to develop in technique, but can do good job of getting placement with his hands and can stay in front of defenders once he does. This is a very good tight end with room to still grow and improve as a player.
How he fits: This is the second ESPN 300 TE that Alabama has landed that was once committed to a Big 12 school as the Crimson Tide strike again in the state of Texas. With Tennison, they get a player with a nice blend of size and speed as well as some continued upside. Little stronger at this stage as a receiver and will need to develop further as a blocker before he can consistently contribute, but shows upside and ability in that area. With Hale Hentges being a junior next season, Tennison should get a chance to contribute where he is strongest while not needing to play a substantial role and still be allowed to develop where needed; as an in-line blocker. With O.J. Howard moving on after this season, Alabama is assembling a talented, fairly versatile and deep group of young tight ends with Miller Forristall and Irv Smith a class ago and now Kedrick James and Tennison.
Reminds us of: It is from a few seasons ago, but we can see Tennison growing into a player in the mold of former Alabama TE Michael Williams, though a little stronger receiver with more work to do to be as effective as a blocker.
How the class is shaping up: Alabama is once again among the top-three classes and in the hunt for the No. 1 overall class. The class is led by three five-stars in No. 1 RB Najee Harris, No. 1 Ath Dylan Moses and No. 3 OT Alex Leatherwood. With the addition of Tennison the class now includes 14 ESPN 300 prospects. There are seven prospects in this class that currently rank among the top-three at their respective position, including No. 3 WR Jerry Jeudy.
