LSU commit Kary Vincent visiting Texas, likely Ohio State

PORT ARTHUR, Texas -- When LSU fired Les Miles Sept. 26 it sent shock waves throughout the recruiting world. With a top-five class, the immediate question was what would become of the Tigers’ stellar class. That was especially true of the Tigers commitments in the neighboring Lone Star State, with six hailing from Texas.

Kary Vincent, No. 23 in the ESPN 300, is one of those, and while he waits to see how the coaching search in Baton Rouge unfolds, he has made it clear where he stands with LSU.

“As I’ve told everyone, and my coaches at LSU know, I’m 110 percent committed to the school and not the coaches,” said Vincent. “The love for LSU I have is not going to fade.”

For the door to fully open for other programs, it would take defensive backs coach Corey Raymond to not be retained by the new head coach in Baton Rouge.

“I can’t say at the moment (if it would be a deal breaker), but it would play a part because Coach Corey Raymond was a significant part of my recruitment and being the defensive backs coach, so that would play a part,” Vincent said.

Texas and Ohio State have the best chance at stealing Vincent from the Tigers. The Longhorns are set to host Vincent in two weeks.

“… I didn’t expect coaches to stop recruiting me when I committed, but I respect the fact that the Texas coaches have put in a lot of effort since I committed,” Vincent said. “Coach (Charlie) Strong, Coach (Clay) Jennings and those guys have put in a lot of effort calling me, and having information on stuff I didn’t even know they would know, so I feel like I owe it to them to look into their program.”

While the Longhorns have continued to pursue Vincent since the day he committed to LSU, Ohio State backed off for a while, but are now looking to turn up the heat.

“It’s possible that I might go up to Ohio State. Coach Urban Meyer actually hit me up today, so it’s possible I may go up there.”

Even through the coaching change at LSU has thrown many new thoughts into Vincent’s head, the determining factors will remain the same when the final decision is ultimately made.

“It’s being comfortable, tradition and some place I can call home. That’s what it was when I committed to LSU, and that is what it is I’m looking for.”
