Washington Wizards starting point guard John Wall was named to the All-NBA third team on Thursday. As a result, he is eligible to sign a "designated player veteran extension" beginning in July. The four-year extension, which would kick in beginning with the 2019-20 NBA season, could start in the $36 million-per-year range and be worth around $160 million.

That is a lot of guaranteed money on the table, should the Wizards offer it. Is there any way that Wall will turn down a lucrative extension in 2017 with the view of becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2019?

"I know all about those. I haven’t talked to my agents and stuff like that," Wall told The Washington Post soon after the Wizards' season ended. "I don’t know if I have to talk about an extension and all that because so much more you can get later down the road and what’s at stake. I just sit back with my family, my team and see what we want to talk about and see if there’s anything to discuss this summer or just wait."

In 2016-17, Wall averaged 23.1 points, 10.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 78 regular-season appearances.

Regarding Wall's options moving forward, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic writes: "The piece of the pie is bigger, but Wall seems more likely to ride out his current deal that has two years left and figure out what to do next."

Wall is currently scheduled to make $18.06 million in 2017-18 and $19.16 million in 2018-19.
