The Detroit Pistons were one of the bigger disappointments during the 2016-17 NBA season, finishing as a lottery team and last in the Central Division with a 37-45 record. While some followers of the team may call for wholesale changes in the offseason, starting center Andre Drummond hopes management keeps the squad together.

"I don’t think we need to do any changes," Drummond told the Detroit Free Press. "We had a lot of bumps in the road last season with different things going on, and it took everybody out of sync.

"With this summer coming up, we have to do a better job staying connected -- the more stuff we do together, the better our camaraderie will be."

Several players performed below expectations for various reasons, including health issues, and Drummond was part of that group. Drummond had been dealing with a breathing issue in his left nostril since the 2012-13 season and recently had surgery to fix the problem.

Point guard Reggie Jackson also struggled due to a lingering knee issue that limited him to 52 appearances this season. Both players should be fully fit when training camp opens in the fall.

"Right now is the most important time for our team, to rest, get ourselves together, come together collectively and come up with what we need to do together," Drummond said. “If you think about it, the season just ended not too long ago, so I let guys spend time with their families."

If he picks up his 2020-21 player option, Drummond is set to make $105 million over the next four years.
