After drafting Kris Dunn with the fifth overall pick and with Ricky Rubio still on the roster, the Minnesota Timberwolves may be open to trading second-year point guard Tyus Jones, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Rumor Central

Jones is a young and gifted player, but he's dispensable due to the Timberwolves' depth at the position. New head coach Tom Thibodeau has utilized John Lucas III in his rotation during the preseason, who, at 33 years old, could give the team a veteran presence on the bench.

Minnesota is skeptical about trading Rubio, Wojnarowski notes. So the roster currently has a logjam at the point guard spot. Two teams in particular that have shown interest in trading for Jones are the Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans, per Wojnarowski.

Jones was named summer league MVP after averaging 19.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in seven games in Las Vegas. The 20-year-old improved his stock and reminded teams of his talent level.

During his freshman year at Duke, Jones helped lead the Blue Devils to a national title and was named the Final Four's most outstanding player. He decided to enter the draft after that storybook ending, along with current Sixers big man Jahlil Okafor and Miami Heat forward Justise Winslow. As a rookie last season, he played in 37 games and averaged 4.2 points and 2.9 assists per contest.
