NBA Rumor Central: Clippers' SF spot open for competition

The LA Clippers have opened training camp, and head coach Doc Rivers declared the starting small forward position open for competition.

Rumor Central

"It’s the first day. I think that job is wide open," Rivers told The Orange County Register. "I'd say Luc (Luc Richard Mbah a Moute), Alan (Alan Anderson), Wes (Wesley Johnson) would be the three, but we may go small. Like I said last year, and didn’t follow through on it, that position will change a lot. Last year, we ran a lot with the small lineup, three guards, and we may do that to start games."

If Rivers does go with a "small" lineup, he will shift his shooting guard (JJ Redick is the starter) to small forward and add either Austin Rivers, Jordan Crawford or Raymond Felton to the lineup.

“When you play Austin with that group, he can guard a better offensive player and CP (Chris Paul) can do what the rest of the league does -- their point guards never guard the other point guard," Doc Rivers said. "We want to do that a lot this year."

Mbah a Moute started 61 games last season, while Johnson only got the call to be part of the first team nine times in 2015-16.
