After three seasons away from basketball, Kwame Brown, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft, is attempting a comeback.

Brown, 34, signed with the agency Interperformances on Monday, announcing his intention to return to pro ball, according to Dan Devine of Yahoo Sports.

The Washington Wizards made history by making Brown, a 6-foot-11 center, the first high school player drafted first overall. His production never matched his draft slot for Michael Jordan's team. He lasted only four seasons with the Wizards and was a regular starter for Washington only in 2003-04. His mixture of size and athleticism helped keep him in the NBA for 12 seasons.

Brown last played in the league with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2012-13 season. The 76ers waived him early the next season after he suffered a preseason hamstring injury that kept him from appearing in a game that year. Brown has been out of basketball since. He has NBA career averages of 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Devine speculates that Interperformances' connections in Europe might mean the agency could line up an overseas deal for Brown if he cannot find an NBA team.
