NBA Rumor Central: Hawks' roster likely to expand prior to training camp

The Atlanta Hawks have 17 players under contract and can add up to three more to their training camp/preseason roster. According to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a source says the team will likely extend at least one more training camp offer.

Vivlamore speculates that invite might go to guard Bryce Cotton after he played for their Summer League team in July. In those five games, Cotton averaged 12.8 points, 1.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds. Cotton, a two-year NBA veteran, has played with Utah, Phoenix, and Memphis.

The Hawks open training camp on Sept. 26, and they might also bring in a frontcourt player.

Of the 17 players under contract, only forwards Matt Costello and Mike Muscala have salaries for the 2016-17 season that are not fully guaranteed, and that could leave them on the outside looking in when it comes to setting the regular-season roster in late October.

Muscala has spent his first three years in the NBA with the Hawks after being the No. 44 pick in the 2013 draft. Last season, Muscala played in 60 games and averaged 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds.

Costello, from Michigan State, was not selected in the 2016 NBA draft. He played for the Hawks' Summer League team in July, and over six game he averaged 5.7 points and 5.0 rebounds.
