Friday's Jazz News: Players rest before prep begins for season opener

Jazz get day of rest before final push for 2016-17 season opener: The Utah Jazz finished up their preseason schedule Wednesday night with an 88-84 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. While that result was a bit disappointing — it’s never fun to lose, after all — the team did take some positives away from their second defeat to Portland in two weeks. Perhaps the best part was the return of Rodney Hood. Sure, he was a bit rusty after missing time with a hand injury, but the Jazz badly need wing depth right now, so it was good to have him back in the rotation. -- Deseret News

Fans respond with their wallets to promise of the roster: This coming season, Bryce Blanchard will sit in the same spot at Vivint Smart Home Arena that he's been at every year since 2007: the first row behind the visitors bench. For Blanchard, a 42-year-old from South Jordan, this is tradition. He's been a faithful Utah Jazz fan since he can remember, and a two-time president of the Jazz 100 Club. There aren't many fans more committed than Blanchard. And now, it looks as if he's about to have more help. -- The Salt Lake Tribune
