Friday's Knicks News: Preseason ends with win over Nets

Derrick Rose has a lot of catching up to do with Knicks: The preseason came and went with Derrick Rose spending more time in a Los Angeles courtroom than on the Knicks practice court. How Rose’s two-week absence plays out the first month of the season remains to be seen. For a player with a history of injury problems, it’s unrealistic and perhaps too risky to expect Rose to play 30-plus minutes his first time out. Rose will get a crash course in Triangle 101 when he meets with head coach Jeff Hornacek on Friday before finally returning to practice with his teammates on Saturday. -- New York Daily News

The ‘unknown’: Will Derrick Rose be ready for Knicks’ opener?: The preseason is over. The trial is over. Next stop is Cleveland for the season opener after the Knicks played just one exhibition game with their new star point guard Derrick Rose. With Rose at his new Manhattan digs watching on television, the Knicks ended their preseason with a victory over the rebuilding Nets, 116-111, at Barclays Center. The Knicks finished 4-2 as the defending champions await with their ring ceremony Tuesday night. -- New York Post

Knicks’ cuts coming soon: Which players are on the bubble?: The Knicks had 18 players at training camp — not including the recent deals of Cleanthony Early and Damien Ingles, both of whom were signed to gain their D-League rights so they can play for the Westchester Knicks. Jeff Hornacek indicated the Knicks could have enough reserve bigs after starters Joakim Noah and Kristaps Porzingis. He named Kyle O’Quinn, Willy Hernangomez, Marshall Plumlee, saying that group could be sufficient. That leaves big men Lou Amundson, Maurice Ndour and guard J.P. Tokoto as potential three cuts to get down to 15. -- New York Post

Knicks close out preseason with a win over Nets: The preseason mercifully came to an end for both the Knicks and Nets Thursday night in Brooklyn. And in a game that almost, kind of felt like a regular season game, the Knicks pulled away in the third and held on in the fourth to beat the Nets 116-111 at Barclays Center. The Knicks (4-2) kept up their scoring in the preseason, using a 13-0 run to close out the third quarter, and turn a four-point deficit into a nine-point cushion that proved just too much for the Nets to overcome. -- New York Post

Jeff Hornacek expects to see Derrick Rose Friday: Derrick Rose’s crash course with Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek will begin again Friday at the team’s Westchester training center. Rose was not on hand Thursday night as the Knicks finished the preseason with a 116-111 win over the Nets at the Barclays Center. Hornacek said he expects the point guard to report for work Friday for a personal tutoring session to help reacquaint him with the Knicks system before the season opener Tuesday night in Cleveland. -- Newsday

Trial over, Derrick Rose now trying to catch up with Knicks: The Knicks took the floor for the final time in preseason Thursday night, one last time without Derrick Rose. So after the final 48-minute exhibition test, a 116-111 win over the Nets, the real work was about to begin. Rose flew back from Los Angeles, but did not come across the river to Barclays Center with the team, instead the team planned to have him undergo a crash course in all that he missed during his two-week absence to attend the civil trial against him in Los Angeles. -- The Record
