Friday's Pelicans News: Anthony Davis plays big in loss to Magic

Anthony Davis scores 33, Pelicans still lose to Magic, 114-111, in overtime: Earlier this week there was uncertainty whether Anthony Davis would be available to play in next Wednesday's season opener against the Denver Nuggets because of a sprained right ankle. But Davis, with his ankle responding well to treatment, returned with vengeance on Thursday night in his first game back since suffering the injury eight days ago in China against Houston. In the preseason finale, Davis dominated the Orlando Magic with a 33-point, 13-rebound performance in 37 minutes, but the Pelicans still lost to the Magic, 114-111, in overtime at the Amway Center in Orlando. -- The Times-Picayune

Magic defeat Pelicans in overtime in preseason finale; Anthony Davis has big night: Despite the loss, there was still some good news for the Pelicans, as star power forward Anthony Davis, who missed the team’s last game, returned to the starting lineup, finishing with 33 points and 13 rebounds on 44 percent shooting. “He started out great,” Gentry said. “He was very active offensively but also very active defensively.” The Pelicans also got back guard E’Twaun Moore, who missed the team’s last game with a heel contusion, and Gentry, who was out with stomach illness. -- The New Orleans Advocate
