Wednesday's Magic News: Biyombo hoping NBA will rescind opening night suspension

Sore ankles keep Magic's Aaron Gordon out against Heat: Orlando Magic SF Aaron Gordon is dealing with soreness in both ankles and sat out Tuesday night's game against the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. Gordon, though, said he expected to play Thursday night against the New Orleans Pelicans at Amway Center, Orlando's final preseason game of 2016-17. Gordon severely sprained his left ankle weeks before training camp, but in compensating for that injury, he has experienced some soreness in the right one now, too. -- Orlando Sentinel

Magic, Nikola Vucevic search for offense in 107-77 loss to Heat: Not surprisingly, the addition of new big men has subtracted from Nikola Vucevic's impact. Neither Vooch nor the Orlando Magic feel the sagging stats by their steadiest player through the rebuild is cause for alarm. This probably was bound to happen in the preseason with the arrivals of another young center, Bismack Biyombo, and veteran power forward Serge Ibaka. -- Orlando Sentinel

Biyombo hoping NBA will rescind opening night suspension: When the NBA’s free-agent courting period opened last July, the Orlando Magic targeted and ultimately landed center Bismack Biyombo so that they would have a better shot at slowing down big men such as Miami’s Hassan Whiteside. Because of a quirky and controversial NBA rule, the Magic almost certainly won’t have the shot-swatting, rebounding-grabbing Biyombo available in next week’s regular-season opener against Whiteside and the rival Heat. -- Magic.com

Magic vs. Heat: Postgame Report: The Orlando Magic were one of the NBA’s most active teams in the offseason, pulling off a bevy of transactions designed to make their defense bigger, tougher and more versatile. But one thing hasn’t changed about the composition of the Magic: They will still be looking to talented center Nikola Vucevic to carry the offense with his array of post moves and outside shooting. -- Magic.com
