Tuesday's Magic News: Elfrid Payton spent offseason working on his floater

Magic's Elfrid Payton has enhanced his floater: Elfrid Payton has an improved shot in his arsenal. Payton enhanced his floater during the offseason, and he deployed it effectively in the Orlando Magic's last two preseason games, making a pair of floaters Friday against the Indiana Pacers and one Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks. It could be a big weapon for him. -- Orlando Sentinel

Damjan Rudez stakes claim to Orlando Magic roster spot: Damjan Rudez is the clear favorite for the 14th roster spot, although two other training-camp invitees — center Arinze Onuaku and guard Nick Johnson — could be chosen. And the Magic don't have to limit their roster to 14 players. NBA teams are permitted to carry as many as 15 players on their rosters. Rudez seems like a natural fit, especially for a team that needs more outside shooting. Vogel won't divulge what the franchise plans to do, but he's been complimentary of Rudez, calling him maybe the "highest IQ player" on the team. -- Orlando Sentinel

Serge Ibaka displaying growth as scorer: Often a stand-in-the-corner floor-spacer or merely a break-glass-if-necessary offensive option in Oklahoma City, Serge Ibaka has been given the green light in Orlando and he’s showing what he can do as a scorer. How dramatic is the difference between the Ibaka who almost always had to defer to Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook while playing for the Thunder and the one the Magic are now leaning heavily on for offense. -- Magic.com
