Monday's Wizards News: Trey Burke enjoys return to his high school

Trey Burke returns to his Columbus high school as a conquering hero: Trey Burke walked down the Northland High School hallway and into the principal’s office. Though an entourage surrounded him — teachers, students and a even a police officer — Burke already knew the way. He can trace those steps back to the days when he was the school’s star basketball player and the faculty’s favorite. “I know among the teachers, Trey has them in his pocket because he was very respectful and loving his entire time here,” Northland principal Jason Jones said. -- The Washington Post

Brooks taking it slow with starters: While the focus has been on the minutes of John Wall and to a lesser extent Bradley Beal in the preseason, the frontcourt has played significantly fewer minutes as the Wizards gear up for the Oct. 27 regular-season opener. Marcin Gortat only played nine minutes in a 124-119 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Markieff Morris, who miss the two previous games with a sore left foot, logged 15. Gortat missed a recent practice with a sore glute. -- CSN Mid-Atlantic
