Tuesday's Suns News: Alex Len may have to wait for new deal

Phoenix Suns embrace 3 star guards, expect playoffs: When the Suns first officially gathered before their 2014 training camp, an unintentionally metaphoric photo was taken at media day with Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas putting their six hands on one basketball. The smiles disappeared shortly thereafter and so did Dragic and Thomas. Again, when this year’s Suns assembled Monday to head to Flagstaff camp, the Suns' strength lies in a guard trio but there is no fear that Bledsoe, Brandon Knight and Devin Booker will unravel a team that starts its path so tightly bonded. These are not three point guards. Bledsoe is clearly the lead point. -- The Arizona Republic

Alex Len extension not a sure thing: Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Portland’s C.J. McCollum are franchise stars who are the 2013 draftees to sign contract extensions thus far. There will be few 2013 draftees other than them to sign extensions by the Oct. 31 deadline, meaning Suns center Alex Len could be allowed and Suns guard Archie Goodwin figures to be allowed to go without extensions and become restricted free agents in July. Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough said he has not begun extension talks with Len’s or Goodwin’s agents. -- The Arizona Republic

Questions, commitments in Suns backcourt remain a mystery after Media Day: The Phoenix Suns enter the 2016-17 season with three starting-caliber guards and, obviously, are only going to be able to start two. Eric Bledsoe is the leader of the team and its best player, so it’s safe to pen him in as the starting point guard. Shooting guard is where the questions lie with Devin Booker or Brandon Knight, and after Media Day, those questions still remain unanswered. General manager Ryan McDonough said the team has not yet made a decision on any roles. -- ArizonaSports.com
