Boston Red Sox vice president of amateur and international scouting Amiel Sawdaye could join the Arizona Diamondbacks, depending on his future role with the Red Sox, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.

Rumor Central

Olney writes that the "expectation within the industry" is that Sawdaye "could move to Arizona if he doesn't become the Red Sox GM."

Mike Hazen, Boston's former general manger, was named the D-backs' executive vice president and general manager on Sunday.

Sawdaye has been with the Red Sox organization since 2002, when he was hired as an intern. He began working full-time in the scouting department in 2004.

Prior to his role as vice president of amateur and international scouting, Sawdaye served as director of amateur scouting. The Red Sox drafted Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Travis Shaw and Blake Swihart -- all in 2011 -- under Sawdaye.

Sawdaye would not have final say in organizational decisions as the Red Sox's general manager. That responsibility belongs to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

Olney also notes that it wouldn't be a surprise if Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo was hired as the D-backs' manager.

"It's taken as a fait accompli in many corners in baseball that Red Sox coach Torey Lovullo will be the next manager of the Diamondbacks," Olney writes.
