MLB Rumor Central: A's open to looking for veteran starter

With the 2016 season in the books for many teams, the focus now shifts to ways to improve in the offseason.

And the Oakland Athletics are reportedly content with working with what they've got in the pitching department -- unless the right player comes up for grabs.

Joe Stiglich of Comcast SportsNet California tweets that A's Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Billy Beane "feels good" about the young pitching depth the Athletics have built, but that they could still look for a veteran starter if the right guy was available.

With a generally weak pitching market this year, the A's would likely have to give up some of their young talent to secure a top-tier free agent. ESPN's Jim Bowden writes that as Oakland tries to develop its young arms, a big offseason priority will be focusing on improving its defense.
