MLB Rumor Central: Future dim for Chip Hale?

Nearing the end of what has been a disappointing campaign, the Arizona Diamondbacks are believed to be considering a front-office overhaul.

Rumor Central

Senior vice president of baseball operations De Jon Watson was dismissed last week and chief baseball officer Tony La Russa and general manager Dave Stewart have also been rumored to be on the hot seat. Lost in the shuffle is the status of manager Chip Hale, who was reportedly close to being dismissed earlier this season.

Now Hale is back in focus as the season nears its end. Sources tell ESPN's Jim Bowden that if La Russa and Stewart are retained, the 51-year-old will be out as skipper.

"Even if the Diamondbacks do fire both La Russa and Stewart, the new GM will have free rein to make the decision on Hale," Bowden continues.

A saving grace for Hale could be ownership, as the group intervened on his behalf when rumors of his firing were swirling back in July, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal notes.

After losing on Sunday, the D-backs are 64-91, last in the National League West.
