MLB Rumor Central: Indians among teams to attend Tim Tebow's showcase

The Cleveland Indians are sending a scout to watch former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow's workout in Los Angeles on Tuesday, reports cleveland.com's Paul Hoynes.

The Indians aren't the only franchise giving Tebow a look. More than 20 MLB teams will attend the workout, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. ESPN's Katie Strang reports that the American League Central rival Detroit Tigers will also be sending a scout to Tebow's workout.

Tebow hasn't played baseball competitively since his junior year of high school in 2005. That season, he was an all-state selection and batted .494 to help Nease High School reach the final four of Florida's state playoffs.

Hoynes writes that Indians first baseman Mike Napoli wished Tebow luck, but said the game of baseball will deliver the verdict on whether he's good enough.

"Obviously, he's a freak athlete," Napoli said. "We'll see what happens. The game will tell him real quick."

Indians outfielder Rajai Davis originally thought Tebow, who won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore at Florida in 2007, had pitching aspirations, Hoynes writes.

"Hitting a baseball ... that's hard." Davis said. "That's going to take a lot of work unless he's got a good coach. It's going to be tough, but I wish him the best. But the road is going to be hard."
