For the first time since that dismal 0-0 draw against the United States in March, Mexico is back in competitive action tonight aiming to right the perceived wrongs of that night in the Azteca and, more importantly, get its Brazil 2014 qualification campaign into gear after a spluttering start.

Mexico's road game versus Jamaica holds more significance than expected when qualifying began. El Tri are reeling from three ties in their first three qualifiers in the Hexagonal and are sitting outside the qualification zone. There is still plenty of time to turn things around, but Mexico needs to start getting points on the board, and there is a certain amount of growing pressure on coach Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre. Nobody thought this game would be a battle between the Hex's bottom two sides when the draw was made.

The Nigeria friendly on Friday -- even though it finished 2-2 -- was a welcome boost and a reminder of the attacking ability El Tri possess. Coming from behind to equalize with 10 players also showed the return of an attitude that has perhaps been missing in other games this year.

Of course, Jamaica will pose a very different threat to Mexico.
