Crammed in between two important weeks of action in the Liga MX and with none of the European contingent making the trip, Mexico's friendly in San Francisco against Peru on Wednesday isn't exactly the highest-profile game El Tri will play in 2013.

Yet with the Confederations Cup and the Gold Cup looming this summer, and El Tri stumbling in the first three games of World Cup qualification, there is plenty for coach Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre to mull over and a variety of problems that have increased as the year has progressed.

The first and perhaps most pressing of those is starting to make inroads into forming some kind of Plan B in the attacking third for when things aren't quite going as smoothly as required. If a team is frustrating El Tri and its intricate passing, but a physically lackluster forward group of Andres Guardado, Giovani Dos Santos, Javier Aquino and Javier Hernandez isn't working, where can Chepo turn?
