Though the category is fairly down on any national team's totem pole, the U-17 squad has become one of Mexico's top attractions as of late. In eight years, they've become responsible for two of Mexico's world championships at the youth level. An alum of the initial championship in 2005, Giovani dos Santos became the only Mexican player to win titles at two youth levels, with the current Mallorca man helping the U-23 squad win gold in London 2012.
The U-17 team also has become a fantastic springboard for Mexico's youngest and hottest talent. At different points in time, world champions including the likes of Dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Hector Moreno, Efrain Juarez and Marco Bueno have been courted by Europe's finest in order to take their careers to the next level. It also helps raise Mexico's profile at the international level, as El Tri's revolution in the youth categories continues to take hold of the senior team.
