• What formation should El Tri play?

There is an argument to be made that El Tri has not really put together a top performance since last June's 2-0 friendly victory over Brazil. In games since, the team has not clicked like most thought it would with the amount of talent that coach Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre has at his disposal. In many of the matches, you could be forgiven for having the impression -- to be blunt about it -- that teams have figured out how to play against Mexico. But that shouldn't be the case for any team with the technical ability, versatility and depth that Mexico has at present, especially against teams that don't have anywhere near the same aforementioned qualities.

So what isn't working and what needs to be rectified? One of the chief criticisms during De la Torre's reign as Mexico boss has been his insistence on the Oribe Peralta-Javier "Chicarito" Hernandez partnership up front over the past nine months. Is it a coincidence that Mexico played with just one central striker in that Brazil game and, in seven of the nine games since, has started two main strikers?

Here's a look at some potential formations Chepo could explore in finding the key to unlock Mexico's current tactical dilemma with crucial World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and the United States coming up later this month.
