There's a feeling that tonight's Mexican national team friendly (10 p.m. ESPN2/WatchESPN) against Denmark in Arizona is of secondary importance for El Tri to next week's Hexagonal opener against Jamaica. In one sense, that is true -- Mexico and Denmark will be fielding only domestic-based players, and if there is an international game you can afford to lose in 2013, it would be this one.

But tonight's friendly matters more than most think.

Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre wants players programmed to succeed, players that are almost cold-blooded in their winning mentality. He is the hard-nosed, pragmatic manager who doesn't change tactics much in press conferences from game to game, but relentlessly drives home the message that having the chance to wear La Verde and using that opportunity to help the team win is what being on his national team is all about.
