• Comparing Chicharito to Hugo Sanchez

In terms of personality, Javier Hernandez and Hugo Sanchez couldn't be much more different. On the pitch, however, the duo share some eerie similarities, not least the ability to score goals by the bucketful -- and by any means necessary.

Hernandez has traditionally played down any comparison to "Hugol," but he can't escape it and it isn't going to go away. There is intrigue to it, enhanced by the fact Mexico has drastically underperformed in producing the caliber of players it ought to have, at least to date.

How does Chicharito compare to Sanchez at this point in his career?

Mexico City-born Sanchez's record was exemplary from an early age. Not many would dare to argue against him being the best player a CONCACAF nation has ever produced. He accumulated five La Liga scoring titles, earning him the nickname "Pentapichichi," granting him superstar status in Spain and Mexico, and the consistency he showed throughout his long career is often underplayed. Few Real Madrid players receive a farewell friendly in their honor like Sanchez did in 1997 -- in which he scored three goals in a 4-1 victory against Paris Saint-German.
