As I settled into my seat at the Actor's Theatre of Charlotte on a balmy Friday night, I had no idea what to expect from "Heaven On Wheels," a self-described "down-home musical comedy about the history of stock car racing."

I was impressed that the playwrights and producers had been so smart as to schedule a month of shows in the small 150-seat theatre located directly across the street from the just-opened NASCAR Hall of Fame in uptown Charlotte.

I was also impressed with their marketing efforts, which included front page banner ads in the Charlotte Observer and postcards strategically placed at each and every seat of the infield media center at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

But again, as someone who considers himself a fairly well-versed individual on NASCAR history (ESPN Ultimate NASCAR: 100 Defining Moments In Stock Car Racing History on sale now!) I had no idea what to expect.
