At 42, Gary Player might not have been expected by the patrons at Augusta National to contend for the championship at the 1978 Masters.
Trailing by 7 shots heading into the final round, the South African made a late charge by making birdie on seven of his final 10 holes to slip on a third green jacket.
Player's final-round 64 helped him edge Rod Funseth, Hubert Green and Tom Watson by a single stroke. The victory gave the Black Knight his ninth and final career major championship victory.
