• Early thoughts from the first half

DETROIT -- Quick thoughts from early on: • Not sure if it's CBS or the NCAA, but this is easily the loudest I've ever heard the rim microphone. You can hear the clank of a miss throughout the dome. • Ty Lawson gets all the pub for being the fastest point guard in the country, but when Kemba Walker of UConn gets on his jets he can be tough to contain. • Xavier athletic director Mike Bobinski is here courtside as a member of the NCAA tournament selection committee and said he's unaware of any potential meeting with coach Sean Miller and Arizona. He said that doesn't mean the school hasn't reached out to Miller, but he would be shocked if Miller was going to meet with Arizona and didn't say anything to him. • One more name has emerged in the Memphis search outside of Baylor's Scott Drew: Florida State's Leonard Hamilton. Florida State has made overtures to give him a new deal, but the Tigers are still searching for a coach that can get big-time recruits. This is a monster hire for Memphis, but Conference USA officials were saying Saturday that this is also an important hire for the league. That's obvious considering how much Memphis has meant to C-USA since John Calipari raised the program to elite status the past four seasons. • Detroit was dead Wednesday, and it had a flicker of life Thursday. The atmosphere picked up considerably Friday and outside the dome Saturday it looked more like a traditional Final Four with green and white the dominant colors being worn by the faithful. • Goran Suton seems to be doing a good job of playing behind Hasheem Thabeet so far. Still can't believe Thabeet didn't take his first shot until 12 minutes left in the first half.
